Senate passes vote of no confidence on IGP

The senate on Wednesday passed a vote of no confidence on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris

The resolution to pass a vote of no confidence on the IGP followed the refusal of the police boss to appear before the Senate to brief it on security matters.

The senate further declared IGP as enemy of democracy “who is not fit to hold any office in Nigeria and abroad.”

Today, the Senate resolved that the Inspector General (IG) of Police, Ibrahim Idris, is Unfit to hold public office.
The senate noted that the IG‘s refusal to appear before it, after several invitations and a decision by a court of competent jurisdiction, makes him a persistent THREAT and enemy of the nation‘s democracy.

Speaking after the executive session, the President of the Senate Dr Bukola Saraki said „During the executive session, the senate deliberated on the no -appearance of the IGP to the Senate in plenary after a series of invitations.
„Senate noted that this is a great disrespect to the institution and to a constitutional authority.
additionally the senate noted that the refusal of the IGP to appear before an investigative committee as also ruled by a court of competent jurisdiction is a great danger to our democracy.

„Therefore the senate resolves to declare the IGP as an enemy of democracy and not fit to hold any public office within and outside Nigeria.
The Leadership of the senate was also mandated to look into the matter for further necessary action.
